On Thursday, November 11, at around 10:00 am, the deputy sheriff stopped a 1996 Nissan car in the Jamuli SR-94 14000 district. The deputy contacted the driver Jose Espinosa (40-year-old man), who was given arrest warrants. When additional deputies responded to help the area, Espinosa started his car and fled the scene, which led to the pursuit of the car.

The pursuit took place through the Press to the town of Chula Vista. The sheriff’s helicopter arrived to help with the pursuit. Espinosa eventually stopped and walked to the church at 1239 Chula Vista 4th Avenue. Espinosa ran to the church, which was full of parishioners present at the funeral. The parishioners helped the deputies of the Chula Vista Police Department direct the officers to the suspect, who was taken to the front of the church. Espinoza was sentenced to life in prison in central San Diego for avoiding criminal detention.
