SANTI, California. El Cajo, a man found guilty of selling fentanyl pills that killed another man, was sentenced to 15 years in prison on Wednesday.
Olatunde James Temitope Acintond, 23, pleaded guilty in July to federally distributing fentanyl in connection with the 2019 death of 19-year-old Sant, who was identified in court documents only as SJG.
According to the US Attorney’s Office, Akintond confessed that he sold two fake oxycodone pills coated with fentanyl to the victim.

In the defense verdict, Akintonde’s lawyer Daniel Casillas wrote that his client did not know that the pills were filled with fentanyl, only that they were “strong”.
Prosecutors allege that Akintonde’s awareness of the pills forced him to advise the victim to take only one.

The SJG died at his home either on the evening of February 28, 2019 or in the early morning of March 1, the US Attorney’s Office said.
Prosecutors say Akintond continued to sell the same pills for about four months after the victim’s death, or in a written statement through a lawyer, Akintond said he did not know the pills had caused his death before his arrest.
Akintond described SJG’s death as “the most painful feeling I have ever had to endure,” calling the victim “a really good friend, I know his family does not appreciate what I said, but it is an honest truth.”
