DEHESA, California. On Wednesday, a child near Sycuan Casino committed suicide with his children at gunpoint, leading to a nine-hour altercation that ended when he finally surrendered.
The events that led to the armed deadlock began at 1 p.m. Shortly after the age of 30, when a woman called 911 to report that her husband was carrying a weapon, he “threatened to shoot her in front of their children” at their home on Wilson Road. Dehesa area, east of El Cajon, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies went to the residence, contacted the man, urged him to send minors for safety, while crisis negotiators tried to “address any need he may have,” said Lieutenant Anthony O’Boyle.

The distraught father, an active-duty soldier whose name չեն military mission is not disclosed, refused to release the children, forcing officials to send a SWAT team to prepare for a forced entry if necessary.
Counselors and military personnel worked in the morning to defuse the situation.

Finally, shortly before 11 a.m., the man sent the children away and then surrendered. He was taken for a mental health assessment; he was expected to stand at the child’s risk.
The deputies confiscated about 50 firearms from the house.
“We are committed to ending such calls peacefully and to helping those in crisis,” O’Boyle said.
